Do I really need therapy? I can usually handle my problems.
As most of us know, life can be a complex, difficult, and even painful journey. With each day bringing new waves of challenges and opportunities, it is easy to feel lost or isolated along the way. At times we wish the world would stand still for even a moment so that we could gather ourselves and breathe – but the waves never seem to slow. They affect our professional lives, our personal relationships, our sex lives, and even our own thoughts.
While we all have waves in our lives, how you experience these waves is unique. You may withdraw from others. You may have difficulty sleeping. You may have tightness in your chest. You may find yourself feeling sad without knowing for certain why. You may be teary. You may be impotent or no longer interested in sex. You may question your identity or self-worth. You may wonder if you will ever be “enough”. It is at these times that it is important to consider counseling.
As a counselor, I can not stop the waves from coming, but I can help teach you how to navigate your waters. You do not have to learn how to swim alone.
How do I know if your services are the right thing for me or my marriage?
My philosophy is that counseling is an intimate and unique experience that is based upon relationships. The work is client-driven and strength-based, so that sessions center around what your concerns are without my personal judgment or superimposed goals. The first appointment with me is focused upon establishing a positive connection and the formation of a safe space while identifying your concerns, strengths, and hopes for your counseling experience. Your voice is essential, and I want to hear you. At the end of the first appointment, I will advise you if I am able to assist you with your goals or if a referral to another specialist is most appropriate.
What is included in the Evaluation?
I believe that the client and the therapist can work together to understand a problem, and I practically and actively approach the method of learning about the context of the client's concerns. This helps the clients in not only self reflection, but also encourages self reliance outside my office. And, this is what seeds the root of self-confidence as well. The painful emotional beliefs and reservations that restrict individuals from meeting his or her goals, or following his or her passion, can be overpowered when the person starts to accept, forgive, and let go of the past.
How do I best utilize Inside Out's Counseling Services ?
Step 1: Call to receive your free over-the-phone consultation. During this call I will answer any questions you may have, collect your contact information, and schedule your first appointment.
Step 2: Attend your first session. During this time I will review your rights to confidentiality, review consents to treat, and assess your concerns, goals, and strengths in order to best make a clinical recommendation concerning your treatment. This recommendation may be that I am able to assist you with my background, experience, and knowledge. It may also mean directing you to another specialist who has a different method or set of skills that would be a better fit for your needs.
Step 3: Continue to attend your scheduled appointments. Research shows that therapy works best when it is consistent. With your permission, you will receive a text or email reminder from me the day prior to your appointment. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled time. Most treatment consists of weekly or bi-weekly sessions and clients typically reach their goals in 4-12 meetings. Please keep in mind that this number varies and is based upon the client and presenting concerns that he or she hopes to address.
Step 4: Celebrate your growth! At the end of treatment, the client and therapist process the client’s journey, celebrate the client’s work and resilience, discuss resources for continued success, and make a plan for the future.
